Fall 2020 // Professors: Felix Heisel and Sasa Zivkovic
Intangible: Cold // Tangible: Rough
Throughout the first semester, we explored surfaces, textures, and paper materialities in a series of 7 exercises with a culmination of designing a space within a carefully investigated topography.
Acting as a resting place for visitors in arctic cold conditions, this intervention creates a moment of warmth within the frigid landscape. As one enters the space the claustrophobic triangular ceilings allows your body to compress and conserve the warmth of your body. Then, as you move through the space the heat from the fireplace radiates and allows your body to expand. Space and heat are proportional in the way they act to expand the body and relax the senses. Located on the edge of a cliff, the windows throughout the building allows for a scenic view of the cold outdoors.
